5 wild cats beaten to death in Chuadanga

Locals have killed five wild cats including mother and child in Chuadanga. The incident took place at Madrasapara of Dinnathpur village under Shankarchandra union of Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

In the kitchen of the house of Billal Hossain, an expatriate from Dinnathpur village, a mother cat with four cubs was staying inside the chalk. Seeing them, Billal Hossain's wife Nuri Begum informed the locals. Later, the locals beat the mother to death along with her four children and buried her beside her.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Mohammad Mohsin said he has not received any complaint so far.

School teacher Bakhtiyar Hamid, president of the Care for Unclaimed Beast, a voluntary environmental organization in Chuadanga, confirmed the killing.

He said that after hearing the incident, he visited the spot with one of the members of the organization.

They demanded exemplary punishment by bringing the accused under the law.

Zakir Hossain, the forest officer-in-charge of Chuadanga district, said, "I have come to know about the killing of forest cats by beating them. The incident is very tragic. A team of us will visit the spot. A case is being prepared in this regard."
