Yusuf Mia listened to the historic speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 7, 1971 at Racecourse Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan).
Earlier, Yusuf Mia had taken part in the Awami League's election campaign by touring different areas of Dhaka during the 1970 elections. During this election campaign, he became interested in a new subject. Various types of songs were sung during the election campaign. In this way he also started singing for the candidates. Later he composed many poems and songs. At the height of Bangladesh's birth, young Yusuf Mia was inspired by Bangabandhu's speech on March 7, 1971 and later composed several songs and poems.
Bangla Academy published a series of books on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary. One of them is the book "Life and Politics of Bangabandhu in the Writings of Devout Poets". The book is written by folklore researcher Simon Zakaria.
He told Voice of America: Inspired by Bangabandhu's speech, he composed songs and poems. These will be considered as important elements in the study of the history of Bangladesh. Apart from composing music in the genre of Sufi music, he has written several songs about Bangabandhu. The emotion of Bangabandhu's historical speech was transmitted from the depths of his heart in such a way that he could see Bangabandhu still brilliant in meditation and knowledge. ”
In March 1971, Yusuf Mia was living with his family in Malibagh, Dhaka. He was 15 then. Her father died when she was very young. After the death of his father, he came to Dhaka with his mother from Jajira in Shariatpur and started living in Malibagh. I don't remember my father very much.
After coming to Dhaka, Yusuf Mia started selling bidis and cigarettes. This leads to additional income in the family. In 1970-71, he would occasionally move from Malibagh, Shantinagar to the Dhaka University area with a small box of Pan-Bidi-cigarettes in his hand. Wherever there was a large gathering of people, he would rush there in the hope of selling more. In this way the political meetings and gatherings of Dhaka became his circle. Following this, he also appeared on the then racecourse ground on March 7.
On the afternoon of March 7, Yusuf Mia saw that the racecourse ground had become crowded. People climbed the trees in the garden without finding a place to stand. People have been waiting for a long time to see Bangabandhu at a glance, to hear his speech. After this incident, Yusuf Mia wrote in his song: “The spirit of independence was created by Bangabandhu. People responded to Bangabandhu's call. Yahya Bhutto Tikka Pail Education / Fragment is Pakistan ".
Yusuf Mia told Voice of America: Later, after nine months of war, the country became independent. Here comes Bangladesh. ”
Yusuf Mia says that after the speech on March 7, a kind of energy was awakened even among the common people of East Pakistan at that time. He said, “After listening to that speech, everyone's hair has gone up. All people are waiting for freedom. At the end of the war we got the country. ”
The genocide was carried out on the night of March 25, 1971. After capturing that memory, his song - "March 25, the black night does not go well / Boy kills son in front of mother, mother cries / People die on the roadside after being shot / Boy dies in front of mother and snatched away".
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested after launching an attack on Dhaka at midnight on March 25. He was imprisoned in Pakistan during the war of liberation. The pious poet Yusuf raises the issue in his song as follows: / In my Bangladesh / I will stay in Bangladesh / The Bengali people will see '/ Everybody knows the liberation army did the country / Rescue died with it Police-BDR / I gave blood I will give more / I will not give the country / Bangla won in nine months / Yusuf's composition song. "
In this way, the devotee poet Yusuf Mia has reminisced about the liberation war with Bangabandhu's speech on March 7. Talking to Voice of America, he said, “Now I live in Malibagh in Dhaka with my family and relatives. I remember the racecourse speech in March every year. I was fortunate enough to hear this historic speech in person. "
