The United States has called on Americans to consider leaving Russia immediately
The State Department said on Sunday that US citizens should consider leaving Russia immediately on a commercial flight. The reason for this is the growing number of airlines canceling their flights since the invasion of Ukraine and the closure of airspace by various countries for flights from Russia.
A February 26 security warning on the website of the US Embassy in Moscow stated that "US citizens should consider leaving Russia immediately, using existing trade options."
It calls on U.S. citizens to "make an alternative plan for possible contingencies, not relying on US government assistance."
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has prompted a series of punitive measures by Western nations. This is the largest attack on any European country since World War II. The United States and European governments have already imposed sanctions on Russian banks and financial institutions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the attack a "special operation." By doing so, he wants to demilitarize Russia's southern neighbor.
The Foreign Ministry has issued a travel alert in Russia on "Level Four: Do not travel." On February 20, the US Embassy in Moscow asked the Americans in Russia to come up with a plan to leave the country. The reason given was the risk of an attack on Russia's borders with Moscow and Ukraine.
