Russia is unhappy with the statement of CEC of Bangladesh

The CEC was speaking at a press conference on February 28

Russia has expressed dissatisfaction with a statement made by the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh, Kazi Habibul Awal. Kazi Habibul Awal praised the heroic role of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at war with Russia at the first press conference on February 26 after his appointment as CEC. Alexander V. Mantitsky, Russia's ambassador to Dhaka, sent an unofficial message to the Foreign Ministry expressing surprise at the CEC's remarks about Zelensky. The Russian embassy sees the CEC's statement as Bangladesh's position against Russia.

On February 26, the CEC formally confronted the media on behalf of the newly formed Election Commission. There he talked about various things. In response to a question from reporters, the CEC cited the example of the Russia-Ukraine war. Addressing the political parties, he said: "You don't have to leave the field. Stay on the field. It will be hard. Zelensky might have run away. He did not run away. He said he would fight Russia. He is fighting a resistance war with Russia."

Considering the CEC's statement as Bangladesh's position against Russia, the Russian embassy brought the matter to the notice of the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry. Although he did not want to talk directly about the exchange of unofficial messages, Bangladesh's foreign secretary Masood bin Momen told the media that this was a personal comment from the chief election commissioner.

Foreign Ministry officials say Bangladesh's position on the war situation is now clear. Which has already been informed through notification. Bangladesh has also explained its position in the UN. Bangladesh's position on the war has nothing to do with the CEC's remarks or examples.

Despite the CEC's statement on February 26, Bangladesh's position on the issue was unclear.
