Blinken is touring Europe for diplomacy on Ukraine
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken left for Eastern Europe on Thursday to meet with Neto allies and other European leaders in an effort to find a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine situation.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ned Price said in a statement that Blinken would first travel to Brussels, where he will meet with NATO foreign ministers and European Union (EU) foreign ministers at a G-7 ministerial meeting.
Blinken will travel to Poland on Saturday for a meeting with Polish leaders, including Foreign Minister Gibignu Raus. There he will discuss "further security assistance in the face of Russia's continued aggression.
Price said the foreign minister would thank Poland for its warm welcome to the millions of people displaced by Ukraine and would discuss how the United States could step up humanitarian aid efforts for those fleeing Putin's war.
Blinken is scheduled to visit Moldova later on Saturday. There, he will discuss with President Maya Sandu, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and Foreign Minister Niku Popscu about efforts to receive and assist refugees in Moldova, and will emphasize US support for those efforts.
Blinken will travel to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia from March 7 to 8 to meet with the leaders of those countries. Discuss joint efforts with the leaders of those countries to support Ukraine, strengthen NATO resistance and defense, and promote democracy and human rights.
In a news briefing on Wednesday, Blinken said, "We continue to pursue deep diplomacy with our allies and partners to end the Ukraine crisis."
"If there is a diplomatic move that the Ukrainian government believes will be helpful, we can take it - although we continue to support Ukraine's ability to defend itself," he said.
